Bridie Fitzgerald is a music therapist registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association and registered psychotherapist/counsellor. In Bridie`s possession is a master’s in counselling and master’s in music therapy. Over the past two decades Bridie has worked as a therapist in clinical settings such as psychiatry, aged care, disability, early intervention, domestic violence, children and youth counselling and cancer support, in addition to being a casual academic (Faculty of Counselling) at Murdoch University. Bridie has published several scholarly articles and engaged in research studies at a master’s level (trauma & Autism).
Location: Private studio Koongamia (3.7 km from Midland)
All therapy sessions take place at Bridie`s private studio in Koongamia, although, in some cases therapy may occur at a local school, in the home or via Telehealth and Telephone counselling.
Philosophy
Bridie`s is a strong believer that the therapeutic use of music plays an important role in the treatment of children and trauma and is the author of the book: Trauma Informed Music Therapy and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; Ideas for Clinicians Treating Children and Adults. Bridie maintains that the development of the therapeutic alliance with a client is an essential stage of therapy (building rapport) and offers her clients the opportunity to makes choices about how their therapy unfolds, be it engagement in creative or talk -based therapy.
